With Ecologically Based Rodent Management (EBRM) we propose integrated control mechanisms that greatly improve agricultural production standards in quantity and quality, and improves healthy living conditions. EBRM provides an innovative solution through a wide range of ecological and biological control measures from household to community level, anchored in local government and farming communities. It is based on key expertise on rodent behaviour and physiology.
Women are the drivers of change. Local SMEs comprising of 6 women each, produce the newly developed highly effective botanically based organic rodenticide. We support these women with knowledge on technical matters, finance and entrepreneurship. The product is sourced, produced and sold locally within the space of district/region.
The plants with sickening/repelling/irritating effects on rats are identified by farmers who have been deploying these methods in the past. We have tested it out in the lab and in the field, in close cooperation with the farmers. The solution therefore is fine-tuned to the needs and wishes of farmers, generating a strong support and high demand from the farmers.
