A great result of horizontal learning - the successful scaling up of local grain storage. In the Ecologically-Based Rodent Management (EBRM) campaigns two years ago a competition of good practices was organized. This is how we came across Ato Sisay Mengistie who had developed his own storage model made of corrugated iron and wood - at a cost of 27 Euro including the construction. In the following EBRM campaigns and farmer experience sharing events his model was shown many times and by now the model has become very popular. There are multiple ‘carpenters’ who are hired by farmers to construct the storage structure, this is providing both additional income and safe storage alternatives.
